Choosing Photos for a Memorial

Photos can help a memorial feel personal, but choosing them can be emotional. Begin with a few images that feel true to the person, then add more when you are ready.

Photos that often work well

  • A clear main portrait
  • Family moments
  • Places they loved
  • Work, hobbies, faith, community or service
  • Small everyday scenes that show their character

Ask for permission and be sensitive

Avoid images that are private, distressing or include living people who may not want to appear publicly. Use private or unlisted settings if the family is not ready to share widely.

Tell the story gently

A small set of meaningful photos is enough. Captions can add context without needing to explain everything.

Create a peaceful private memorial

Memorial Garden lets families collect photos, stories, candles, flowers, prayers and tributes in one gentle place.
